1 December 2020 - The Sabah Human Development and Empowerment Association (SAHDEA) has unveiled its five-year strategic framework, the SAHDEA Blueprint 1.0, which will serve as a roadmap for empowering Sabahans to become active, engaged, and responsible citizens capable of driving positive change within their communities.
The blueprint reflects SAHDEA's commitment to fostering inclusive development by placing women, youth, and grassroots communities at the centre of its initiatives. Through strategic partnerships, capacity-building programmes, advocacy efforts, and community engagement, the association aims to strengthen civic participation while addressing key social and economic challenges facing Sabah.
Recognising the importance of collective action in shaping the state's future, the blueprint focuses on enhancing individual agency, promoting community resilience, and creating opportunities that enable Sabahans to contribute meaningfully to society.
To achieve these goals, SAHDEA has identified five key strategic pillars that will guide its work over the next five years:
1. Advocacy and Institutional Relationships
SAHDEA will focus on building strong relationships with government agencies, educational institutions, civil society organisations, private sector partners, and community leaders. Through constructive engagement and evidence-based advocacy, the association seeks to amplify community voices, influence policy discussions, and create sustainable platforms for collaboration that benefit Sabahans across all districts.
2. Arts and Culture
Recognising Sabah's rich cultural diversity and heritage, SAHDEA will support initiatives that preserve, celebrate, and promote local arts, traditions, and cultural expressions. The association believes that arts and culture play a vital role in strengthening social cohesion, fostering identity, and creating opportunities for community engagement, particularly among younger generations.
3. Community Aid and Humanitarian Response
SAHDEA aims to strengthen community resilience by developing programmes that provide timely assistance during emergencies, disasters, and times of hardship. The association will work alongside local stakeholders to coordinate humanitarian efforts, mobilise resources, and support vulnerable communities while promoting long-term recovery and sustainable development.
4. Women's Empowerment, Youth Development, and Entrepreneurship
As a core pillar of the blueprint, SAHDEA is committed to expanding opportunities for women and young people through leadership development, skills training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship initiatives. By nurturing future leaders and supporting small business development, the association seeks to enhance economic participation, encourage innovation, and foster greater self-reliance among Sabahans.
5. Sports Development
SAHDEA recognises sports as a powerful tool for personal growth, community building, and youth engagement. The association will support programmes that encourage active lifestyles, talent development, inclusivity, and community participation in sports. Through strategic collaborations, SAHDEA aims to create opportunities for aspiring athletes while promoting values such as discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
The launch of the SAHDEA Blueprint 1.0 marks an important milestone in the association's journey towards building a more empowered, inclusive, and resilient Sabah. Through the implementation of these strategic priorities, SAHDEA hopes to contribute meaningfully to the state's social, cultural, and economic development while ensuring that every Sabahan has the opportunity to realise their full potential.
